FLORIDA GEOGRAPHIC DATA LIBRARY DOCUMENTATION

TITLE: FLORIDA INVASIVE PLANTS - JUNE 2010

Geodataset Name: FNAIIP_JUN10
Geodataset Type: SHAPEFILE
Geodataset Feature: Point
Feature Count: 129782
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Florida Invasive Plants shapefile (FLInv) is derived from a geodatabase of observed locations for invasive, exotic plant species on public conservation lands in Florida. The exotic species therein are those listed by the Florida Exotic Pest Plant Council as being invasive species (see "EPPC" attribute and metadata in FLInv). State (Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services) and federal (United States Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service) rankings are also listed for the EPPC-listed species. Each point identifies at a minimum the species and date that the observation was made. Other factors such as acreage, plant distribution, reference, and eradication efforts taking place at that location are included as available.

OCCURID Auto-generated, indexed, unique whole number for occurrence record in Geodatabase representing an invasive exotic plant infestation.

PlantName Scientific name of the species

Voucher Information on a voucher specimen if one was taken

GrossAcres Gross acreage of the infestation (are to be worked for treatment of the infestation)

Distributn Pattern of plant distribution within the gross acreage. Possible values are: Single plant or clump One individual plant or one small clump of a single species. Scattered plants or clumps Multiple individual plants or small clumps of a single species scattered within the gross area infested. Scattered dense patches Dense patches of a single species scattered within the gross area infested. Dominant cover Multiple plants or clumps of a single species that occupy a majority of the gross area infested. Dense monoculture Generally a dense stand of a single dominant species that not only occupies more than a majority of the gross area infested, but also covers/excludes other plants. Linearly scattered Plants or clumps of a single species generally scattered along a linear feature, such as a road, trail, property line, ditch, ridge, slough, etc. within the gross area infested.

PctCover A visual estimate of the percentage of the gross acre(s) infested that is actually covered by the canopy of the plants. Percent Cover classes are: < 5 %, 5 - 25 %, 26 - 50 %, 51 - 75 %, > 75 %

Comments Comments or other observations about infestation, distribution, location, or natural community not captured in other fields.

CommonName Common name of the plant

FLEPPC_CD Rank of taxon by Florida Exotic Pest Plant Council.
I = EPPC Category I (Plant species that alter native plant communities by displacing native plant species, changing community structure or ecological functions, or hybridizing with native plants.)

The Florida Geographic Data Library is a collection of Geospatial Data
compiled by the University of Florida GeoPlan Center with support from
the Florida Department of Transportation. GIS data available in FGDL is
collected from various state, federal, and other agencies (data sources)
who are data stewards, producers, or publishers. The data available in
FGDL may not be the most current version of the data offered by the
data source. University of Florida GeoPlan Center makes no guarantees
about the currentness of the data and suggests that data users check
with the data source to see if more recent versions of the data exist.

Furthermore, the GIS data available in the FGDL are provided 'as is'.

A note about data scale:

Scale is an important factor in data usage. Certain scale datasets
are not suitable for some project, analysis, or modeling purposes.
Please be sure you are using the best available data.

1:24000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the
county level.
1:24000 data should NOT be used for high accuracy base mapping such
as property parcel boundaries.
1:100000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the
multi-county or regional level.
1:125000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the
regional or state level or larger.

Vector datasets with no defined scale or accuracy should be
considered suspect. Make sure you are familiar with your data
before using it for projects or analysis. Every effort has been
made to supply the user with data documentation. For additional
information, see the References section and the Data Source Contact
section of this documentation. For more information regarding
scale and accuracy, see our webpage at:

DATA LINEAGE SUMMARY:
Data are compiled from FNAI surveys and shared data sets from cooperators.
Data are mapped, standardized, and quality-control reviewed then added to
feature classes in an AcrSDE geodatabase stored in Microsoft SQL Server.
Process Date: Unknown

Spatial attributes including Managed area name, County, Quad, Township, Range and Section are joined to geodatabase attributes using ArcMap 9.2. Latitude and longitude attributes are added. Process Date: Unknown
GeoPlan downloaded this dataset from the Florida Natural Areas Inventory website (http://www.fnai.org/invasivespecies.cfm) in June 2010. The data was downloaded in shapefile format and was in the following projection: Albers HARN. - All fields were upcased. - A DESCRIPT field was added based on PlantName - A FGDLAQDATE field was added based on the date of download by GeoPlan. - File was renamed fnaiip_jun10 from FLINVpt_20100614.shp Process Date: 20100617
Data imported to ArcSDE and exported as a shapefile. Process Date: 20100625
