The institute name has not been changed in historical data sets or references to work completed by the Florida Marine Research Institute. The institute name has been changed in references to ongoing research, new research, and contact information. The update of these data are an ongoing process. If the Last Updated Date fields are January 2012 or older, the boundaries may have changed. Please verify the boundaries with FWC s Division of Habitat & Species Conservation: Wildlife & Habitat Management Section.

This GIS data set was created to represent a comprehensive statewide data set of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) Wildlife Management Area system.

Positional accuracy has not been determined and varies according to linework source. Some data have been edited to align with county parcel data, major roads and Section Township Range (STR) data.

This data is provided 'as is' and its vertical positional accuracy has not been verified by GeoPlan

DATA LINEAGE SUMMARY:

Chassahowitka WMA, Andrews WMA, Bullfrog Creek Mitigation Park WEA, Crooked Lake WEA, Lake Wales Ridge WEA and Platt Mitigation Park WEA were created by using DOR parcel data, with exceptions below. Contact the individual county property appraisers for questions on accuracy of parcel data. -Bulllfrog Creek WMA was created using parcel data, but in the Legal Description it cites the STR line, but the STR line did not exactly match with parcel data, so parcel data was used as default. Process Date: 20150302 Wildlife Management Area boundaries were produced by "heads-up" digitizing from 1999 USGS infrared imagery (DOQQ). In specified cases, Florida Natural Areas Inventory (FNAI) boundaries were used and modified based on the DOQQs. All boundaries are based on information from PDF maps of the Wildlife Management Areas from the FWC Web site: http://myfwc.com/hunting/wma-brochures. Process Date: 2005 Updated data Fall 2005. Process Date: 20151006 John C. and Mariana Jones/Hungryland WEA was created by using DOR parcel data and the Lead areas were seperated from the Cooperative Areas. Holey Land WMA was updated to better match the canals and Everglades and Francis S. Taylor Wildlife Management Area. Lake Wales Ridge WEA was updated by removing an incorrect parcel. Process Date: 20190118 GeoPlan downloaded this data in shapefile format from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission-Fish and Wildlife Research Institute FTP site on June 28, 2019. The data was received as a shapefile in projection: NAD_1983_2011_Florida_GDL_Albers. The dataset was then projected from NAD_1983_2011_Florida_GDL_Albers to FGDL Albers HARN using NAD_1983_To_HARN_Florida transformation. Previously this dataset came in a custom PCS Albers projection.
