The District has prepared a manual that provides a list of all the attribute values, entitled the SRWMD 1994-1995 Land Use and Cover Manual . It is available in pdf format at md_lib/lclu/lcmanual.pdf, or in hardcopy form from the district. This manual describes each land use and cover code used in creating the database. It was used by the photo interpretation (PI) and ground-truthing teams during the process of creating the maps, to assign a code to each land use or cover polygon. The class descriptions contain criteria, issues, and overall rationale behind each class in the classification system. 174 different classes of land use and land cover were used in this data layer. They are listed below: FLUCFCS1 FEATURE 1000 ------ Urban, Built-Up Areas, & Extractive 1110 LOW DENSITY RESIDENTIAL (.2-2 DU/AC) 1120 LOW DENSITY RESIDENTIAL MOBILE 1130 LOW DENSITY RESIDENTIAL MIXED 1140 RANCHETTES FIXED (>5 AC/DU) 1150 RANCHETTES MOBILE 1160 RANCHETTES MIXED 1210 MEDIUM DENSITY RESIDENTIAL (2-5 DU/AC) 1220 MEDIUM DENSITY RESIDENTIAL MOBILE 1230 MEDIUM DENSITY RESIDENTIAL MIXED 1310 HIGH DENSITY RESIDENTIAL (>6 DU/AC) 1320 HIGH DENSITY RESIDENTIAL MOBILE 1330 MULTIPLE DU LOW RISE (<= 2 STORIES) 1340 MULTIPLE DU HIGH RISE (>= 3 STORIES) 1350 HIGH DENSITY RESIDENTIAL MIXED 1400 COMMERCIAL AND SERVICE SITE 1400 COMMERCIAL AND SERVICES 1411 SHOPPING CENTER 1423 JUNK YARD 1424 FARMERS MARKET 1443 OPEN AIR THEATER 1452 MOTEL 1453 TRAVEL TRAILER PARK 1454 CAMPGROUND 1460 OIL AND GAS STORAGE 1480 CEMETERY 1513 SEAFOOD PROCESSING 1514 MEAT PACKING FACILITY 1515 POULTRY AND/OR EGG PROCESSING 1516 GRAIN AND LEGUME PROCESSING 1521 SAWMILL 1522 PLYWOOD AND VENEER MILL 1523 PULP AND PAPER MILL 1526 LOG HOME PREFABRICATION 1527 WOODYARD 1532 PHOSPHATE PROCESSING 1533 LIMEROCK PROCESSING 1535 HEAVY MINERALS PROCESSING 1544 LIQUIFIED GASES 1545 ASPHALT PLANT 1550 OTHER LIGHT INDUSTRY 1551 BOAT BUILDING AND REPAIR 1552 ELECTRONICS 1554 AIRCRAFT BUILDING AND REPAIR 1555 CONTAINER MANUFACTURER 1556 MOBILE HOME MANUFACTURER 1560 OTHER HEAVY INDUSTRY 1564 CEMENT PLANT 1565 PLASTIC PIPE PLANT 1570 CHEMICAL PROCESSING 1613 HEAVY MINERAL MINE 1614 PHOSPHATE MINE 1620 SAND AND GRAVEL PIT 1631 LIMEROCK QUARRY 1632 DOLOMITE QUARRY 1633 PHOSPHATE 1650 RECLAIMED LAND 1660 HOLDING POND 1670 INACTIVE STRIP MINE/ROCK QUARRY 1710 EDUCATIONAL FACILITY 1720 RELIGIOUS SITE 1736 NATIONAL GUARD INSTALLATION 1741 HOSPITIAL 1742 NURSING HOME 1756 MAINTENANCE YARD 1761 STATE PRISON 1765 MUNICIPAL PRISON 1770 OTHER INSTITUTIONAL FACLITIY 1810 SWIMMING BEACH 1820 GOLF COURSE 1831 AUTOMOBILE RACING TRACK 1832 HORSE RACING TRACK 1833 DOG RACING TRACK 1840 MARINE - FISHING CAMP 1851 CITY PARK 1852 ZOO 1860 COMMUNITY RECREATIONAL FACILITY 1870 STADIUM 1890 OTHER RECREATIONAL FACILITY 1910 UNDEVELOPED URBAN LAND 1923 INACTIVE DEVELOPMENT LAND NONFORESTED 1924 INACTIVE DEVELOPMENT LAND FORESTED 1930 URBAN LAND IN TRANSITION NO INDICATORS OF INTENDED ACTIVITY 2000 ------ Agriculture 2110 IMPROVED PASTURE 2130 WOODLAND PASTURE 2140 ROW CROP 2220 FRUIT ORCHARD 2221 PEACHES 2224 BLUEBERRIES 2230 OTHER GROVES 2231 PECANS 2320 POULTRY FEEDING OPERATION 2330 SWINE FEEDING OPERATION 2410 TREE NURSERY 2420 SOD FARM 2430 ORNAMENTAL NURSERY 2510 HORSE FARM 2520 DAIRY 2530 KENNEL 2540 AQUACULTURE 2590 OTHER SPECIALTY FARM 2620 OLD FIELD 3000 ------ Non-Forested 3210 PALMETTO PRAIRIE 3220 COASTAL SCRUB 3290 OTHER SHRUBS AND BRUSH 4000 ------ Upland Forest 4110 MESIC FLATWOODS 4120 LONGLEAF SANDHILL 4130 SAND PINE SCRUB 4140 PINE - MESIC OAK 4190 HUNTING PLANTATION WOODLANDS 4210 OAK SANDHILL 4230 OAK - PINE - HICKORY 4250 TEMPERATE HARDWOOD 4310 BEECH - MAGNOLIA 4320 OAK SCRUB 4340 HARDWOOD - CONIFER MIXED 4390 MARITIME HAMMOCK 4410 PINE PLANTATION 4430 FOREST REGENERATION 5000 ------ Open Water 5100 STREAMS AND WATERWAYS 5210 LAKE > 500 ACRES 5210 LAKES > 500 ACRE 5220 LAKE 100-500 ACRES 5230 LAKE 10-100 ACRES 5240 LAKE < 10 ACRES 5320 RESERVOIR 100-500 ACRES 5330 RESERVOIR 10-100 ACRES 5340 RESERVOIR < 10 ACRES 5410 EMBAYMENTS OPENING DIRECTLY INTO GULF 5420 EMBAMENTS NOT OPENING DIRECTLY INTO GULF 5500 MAJOR SPRINGS 6000 ------ Wetlands 6110 BAY SWAMP 6120 MANGROVE SWAMP 6130 GUM SWAMP 6140 SHRUB SWAMP 6150 BOTTOMLAND HARDWOOD SWAMP 6170 MIXED WETLAND HARDWOODS 6210 CYPRESS 6220 WET FLATWOODS 6240 CYPRESS-PINE-CABBAGE PALM 6300 WETLAND MIXED FOREST 6310 HYDRIC HAMMOCK 6320 NEW TIDAL SWAMP 6410 FRESHWATER MARSH 6420 SALTMARSH 6430 WET PRAIRIE 6440 EMERGENT AQUATIC VEGETATION 6510 SALT BARREN 6520 INTERTIDAL AREA 6530 INLAND SHORE/EPHEMERAL POND 6540 OYSTER BAR 6600 CUT OVER WETLAND 7000 ------ Barren Land 7410 RURAL LAND IN TRANSITION NO INDICATORS OF INTENDED ACTIVITY 7420 BORROW AREA 7430 SPOIL AREA 8000 ------ Infrastructure 8111 COMMERCIAL AIRPORT 8112 GENERAL AVIATION 8113 PRIVATE AIRPORT 8120 RAILROAD 8132 BUS TERMINAL 8133 TRUCK TERMINAL 8141 LIMITED ACCESS HIGHWAY (INTERSTATE) 8142 DIVIDED HIGHWAY (FEDERAL-STATE) 8143 TWO LANE HIGHWAY 8147 TRANSPORTATION CORRIDOR 8170 OIL-WATER-GAS LONG DISTANCE TRANSMISSION LINE 8180 AUTO PARKING FACILITY (HWY REST AREA) 8311 THERMAL (COAL-FIRED) ELECTRICAL POWER GENERATING PLANT 8312 GAS TURBINE ELECTRICAL POWER GENERATING PLANT 8315 ELECTRICAL POWER SUBSTATION 8320 ELECTRICAL POWER TRANSMISSION LINE 8330 WATER SUPPLY PALNT 8340 SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT 8350 SOLID WASTE DISPOSAL Please Note: Any description containing a carrot symbol ( < or > ) has been changed to it's written description of LESS THAN or GREATER THAN, etc. |
The classification system and mapping methodology are consistent over the entire database. Minor variations may occur due to differences between interpreters, reviewers, photography, and normal refinements in methodology over the course of the project. The database has been reviewed for errors and consistency, but minor technical errors such as 'slivers', label errors, and overlapping segments may occur. A report on logical consistency is not available. |
A completeness report is not available. The database is complete for the entire District, and also extends across District boundaries into adjacent counties and the state of Georgia to varying degrees. The referenced browse graphic shows the spatial extent of the data. |
SRWMD The District states that the thematic accuracy is 85% or greater for all level 2 classification codes. Level 2 refers to the first two digits in the class - examples are 2500 or 6100. Further differentiation into level 3 or 4 classes, such as 2510 or 6150, meet a lower standard of attribute accuracy. SRWMD The level of accuracy is lowest among those classes that are easily confused with others, such as pastures, range, and open lands GeoPlan relied on the integrity of the attribute information within the original data. |
INTRODUCTION The 1994-95 Land Use and Cover Project was funded and completed as part of Suwannee River Water Management District s (SRWMD) Surface Water Improvement and Management (SWIM) program. This data is an important tool in understanding the water resources and in monitoring changes in land use and cover over time in the SWIM waterbodies - Suwannee River System, Santa Fe River System, Coastal Rivers System, Alligator Lake, Waccasassa River System and Aucilla River System. The land use and cover was photo interpreted from 1994-95 National Aerial Photography Program (NAPP) 1:40,000 color infrared photography. Photo interpretation was done on United States Geological Survey 7.5 quadrangle basis, with similar cover types delineated into polygons on a mylar overlay. Data classification follows a modified Florida Land Use Cover and Forms Classification System (FLUCFCS) which was originally developed by the Florida Department of Transportation (Procedure No. 550-010-001-a, September, 1985, Second Edition). These polygons were then digitized into ARC/INFO using ARCEDIT with appropriate labeling added. Ground-truthing was performed on all quads following a sampling regimen determined by the SRWMD to be appropriate, which was based on the number of polygons and common interpretation errors. Overall accuracy of this data is approximately 85% to a SRWMD Code Level II. This manual describes each land use and cover code used in creating the database. During the process of creating this Geographic Information System (GIS) database, the photo interpretation (photo ID) and ground-truthing teams used the descriptions in the LAND USE AND COVER CLASSIFICATIONS DEFINITIONS portion of this manual to assign a code to each land use or cover polygon. Each code that was used may contain criteria, issues, and overall rationale behind the determination of the land use or cover code assigned to a polygon. This document was designed as a reference document for SRWMD GIS database users. SRWMD requests that all reports and maps that utilize this 1994-1995 Land Use and Cover data layers include the following text: This data was produced with funding provided by Suwannee River Water Management District s Surface Water Improvement and Management program (SWIM). SRWMD shall not be held liable for any injury or damage caused by the use of data distributed as a public records request regardless of their use or application. The Florida Geographic Data Library is a collection of Geospatial Data compiled by the University of Florida GeoPlan Center with support from the Florida Department of Transportation. GIS data available in FGDL is collected from various state, federal, and other agencies (data sources) who are data stewards, producers, or publishers. The data available in FGDL may not be the most current version of the data offered by the data source. University of Florida GeoPlan Center makes no guarantees about the currentness of the data and suggests that data users check with the data source to see if more recent versions of the data exist. Furthermore, the GIS data available in the FGDL are provided 'as is'. The University of Florida GeoPlan Center makes no warranties, guaranties or representations as to the truth, accuracy or completeness of the data provided by the data sources. The University of Florida GeoPlan Center makes no representations or warranties about the quality or suitability of the materials, either expressly or implied, including but not limited to any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. The University of Florida GeoPlan Center shall not be liable for any damages suffered as a result of using, modifying, contributing or distributing the materials. A note about data scale: Scale is an important factor in data usage. Certain scale datasets are not suitable for some project, analysis, or modeling purposes. Please be sure you are using the best available data. 1:24000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the county level. 1:24000 data should NOT be used for high accuracy base mapping such as property parcel boundaries. 1:100000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the multi-county or regional level. 1:125000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that are at the regional or state level or larger. Vector datasets with no defined scale or accuracy should be considered suspect. Make sure you are familiar with your data before using it for projects or analysis. Every effort has been made to supply the user with data documentation. For additional information, see the References section and the Data Source Contact section of this documentation.
