FLORIDA GEOGRAPHIC DATA LIBRARY DOCUMENTATION
VERSION 2005

TITLE: NATIONAL POLLUTANT DISCHARGE ELIMINATION SYSTEM PERMIT SITES

Geodataset Name: NPDES
Geodataset Type: SHAPEFILE
Geodataset Feature: POINT
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This dataset contains point locations of EPA National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) sites in Florida. About the NPDES Program: "As authorized by the Clean Water Act, the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit program controls water pollution by regulating point sources that discharge pollutants into waters of the United States. Point sources are discrete conveyances such as pipes or man-made ditches." Taken from USEPA's website (http://cfpub.epa.gov/npdes/)

USER NOTES:
GeoPlan relied on the integrity of the attribute information within the original data.
THE DATA INCLUDED IN THIS APPLICATION ARE BASED ON INTERPRETATION OF AVAILABLE
INFORMATION AND SHOULD NOT BE CONSTRUED AS LEGALLY BINDING. These data from EPA
were clipped to the coastal zone within the Ocean GIS area. The original data were
reprojected and the attributes simplified. Original data can be found at
http://www.epa.gov/enviro.

A note concerning data scale:

Scale is an important factor in data usage. Certain scale
datasetsare not suitable for some project, analysis, or
modeling purposes. Please be sure you are using the best
available data.

1:24000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that
are at the county level.

1:24000 data should NOT be used for high accuracy base
mapping such as property parcel boundaries.

1:100000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that
are at the multi-county or regional level.

1:250000 scale datasets are recommended for projects that
are at the regional or state level or larger.

Vector datasets with no defined scale or accuracy should
be considered suspect. Make sure you are familiar with
your data before using it for projects or analyses. Every
effort has been made to supply the user with data
documentation. For additional information, see the
References sectionand the Data Source Contact section of
this documentation. For more information regarding scale
and accuracy, see our web pages at:

DATA LINEAGE SUMMARY:
The NPDES location data were clipped to the Ocean GIS coastal zone region,
the original attribute table was simplified, original geometry was left unaltered.
Process Date: 19980930

GIS Solutions, Inc took the PCS3 file and deleted out the states not in the OPIS study area. The columns were all except: NPDES, Fac_name, Ownership, PCS_lat, PCS_long, BFIPS, State ID, Perm_type, Active, EPA_reg, State, City, County. Process Date: 2004
Data originally released by the NOAA Coastal Services Center in 1994. When GeoPlan received the most recent dataset in 2005, it was in the following projection: GCS North American Datum 1983, Units: Decimal Degrees. The original data was limited to the coastal regions of the southeastern US. Process Date: 20051017
Data was downloaded from NOAA CSC website in shapefile format to GeoPlan in October 2005. GeoPlan, during the QA/QC process included the following aspects: (1) Reprojected data to FGDL Albers. (2) Data was clipped to the State of Florida. (3) Added FGDLAQDATE field. (4) Added DESCRIPT item based on FACILITY_N. Process Date: 20051017
