FEATURE ATTRIBUTE TABLES CODES AND VALUES:
ANTS = anthracite coal BFG = blast furnace gas BITS = bituminous coal (surface) BITSU = bituminous coal (surface/underground) BITU = bituminous coal (underground) BITUS = bituminous coal (underground/surface) COG = coke oven gas FO2 = fuel oil FO6 = fuel oil JF = jet fuel KER = kerosene LIGS = lignite coal LPG = liquefied petroleum gas NG = natural gas PC = petroleum coke REF = refuse RG = refinery gas SUBS = subbituminous coal WD = wood NUCLEAR = nuclear FUELTYPE = primary fuel used. Other fuels used are denoted by a value of "11" in the item field(s) for the specific fuel type(s). DESCRIPT = BASED upon FUELTYPE ( see above)
For the fuel types listed above:
11 indicates that the specified fuel type is used. -99 indicates that the specified fuel type is not used. 0 was not defined in the metadata, but may indicate that the specified fuel type is not used.

FEDERAL ENERGY REGULATORY COMMISION, FORM 423 database
STATECTY = STATE AND COUNTY FEDERAL INFORMATION PROCESSING SYSTEM (FIPS) UTILITYID = UTILITY ID as defined in EIA-767 database. See contacts. PLANTID = POWER PLANT ID as defined in EIA-767 database. See contacts. CITYLIM = CITY LIMITS (see Data Lineage Summary/Edits, below)
USER NOTES:
Three plants (Higgins, G E Turner, and Scholz) were mislocated and St. Lucie nuclear plant was not included in the original coverage. The coverage was edited to locate these plants properly. See "Edits" under the Data Lineage Summary, below.
FGDL QUALITY ASSURANCE STATUS:
-Tolerances were set to FGDL Standards
-Precision was set to Double
-Projected from GEOGRAPHIC to FGDL ALBERS
-DESCRIPT item added based upon FUELTYPE item
-NUCLEAR item added (designation of nuclear plants found in EIA-767 report)
-Changed records to UPPERCASE
-Edited items UTILITYNAM, PLANTNAME, FUEL_TYPE, and COUNTY to spell-out
the full names/information for each.
-Dropped items: FIPS:ST, FIPS:CO (<-see STATECTY), FIPS, and STATE.

DATA LINEAGE SUMMARY:
PROCESS: Power plants were collected from the EIA-767 report and converted into a point coverage. PROCESS DATE: 19970715 SOURCE: Energy Information Administration TITLE: form EIA-767, Steam electric plant operation and design report Geospatial Data Presentation Form: model PUB. DATE: 1994 SCALE: 1:100000 EDITS: PLANT: Scholz, Jackson County REASON: Plant was mislocated. ACTION: According to Florida Power & Light's webpage, this plant is in the city of Sneads. Using the FGDL coverage CITYLM for Jackson County, the point for this plant was moved to Sneads. PLANTS: Higgins, Pinellas County G E Turner, Volusia County St. Lucie, St. Lucie County REASON: Higgins and G E Turner were mislocated and St. Lucie was not included in the original coverage. ACTION: Coordinates were taken from the EIA-767 (1997) report to create a point coverage. The coverage was APPENDed to the original coverage.
Completeness Report:
The completeness of the dataset is known to be suspect. Power plants generating less than 100 MW and power plants that do not provide power to the public are omitted from the EIA-767 dataset. Therefore there are several power plants that do not have location data.
Data Quality Information:
All power plants are labeled correctly and have plntids. The data collected from the EIA 767 are very accurate.
Resource Description: Power Plants of the United States Distribution Liability:
This report is preliminary and has not been reviewed for conformity with U.S. Geoloical Survey editorial standards. Any use of trade, product, or firm names is for the descriptive purposes only and does not imply endorsement by the U.S. Government.
