FEATURE ATTRIBUTE TABLES CODES AND VALUES:

ITEM DESCRIPTION

CFCC Census Feature Class Codes classify all water features
(delimited with a 'H') according to Census Bureau Standard.

H00 Water feature, classification unknown, or not elsewhere classified
H01 Shoreline of perennial, all year, water feature
H02 Shoreline of intermittent, primarily during the rainy season, water
          feature
 H10 Stream
 H11 Perennial stream or river
H12 Intermittent stream, river, or wash
 H13 Braided stream or river
 H20 Canal, ditch, or aqueduct
H21 Perennial canal, ditch, or aqueduct
H22 Intermittent canal, ditch, or aqueduct
 H31 Perennial lake or pond
H70 Non visible water definition boundary used to separate water
          boundaries.
An example is the difference, in names, between a gulf and an ocean.
H71 USGS closure line of the maritime shore.
H74 Water area measurement boundary separating land from coastal
          or great lakes.
H75 Census water boundary separating coastline from the territorial
limit. This limit is set at three miles from the shoreline.

FENAME Feature name of the water body

DECRIPT FGDL Added item based on the CFCC codes listed above

USER NOTES:

United States legal and statistical entities includes Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) codes and/or Census Bureau codes so entities can be easily matched with the 1990 census data. Please refer to the Census Bureau Publication, 1990 Census of Population and Housing Tabulation and Publication Program, for a description of the Public Law (PL) 94-171 data files, Summary Tape Files (STFs), and other sources of data from the 1990 census.

Hydrologic features in CFCC class H no longer are standardized to show directional information.

FGDL QUALITY ASSURANCE STATUS:

-Tolerances were set to FGDL standards.
-Coverage was Projected to FGDL Albers.
-DESCRIPT item added based on the CFCC Item (see above).

DATA LINEAGE SUMMARY:

The original TIGER/Line « data is not in a map projection even though most of the features were scanned directly from source maps (usually USGS 1:100,000 topographic quads) that were in a projection. The USGS source maps were in Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) projections. After the map sheets were scanned, the coordinates were transformed into geographic coordinates of latitude and longitude. The USGS Digital Line Graphs (DLGs) were derived by the same method, but typically were distributed in UTM projections.
